The Bridge Gardeners http://bridgegardeners.weebly.com/
We are a multicultural group of people based in Edmonton, Alberta, who are interested in farming. Most of us are new-comers in Edmonton and several come from Africa, Central & South America and other parts of the world. We also have Canadian friends who joined us to grow our own crops at Lady Flower Gardens (LFG), a beautiful location in North-West Edmonton. Since 2012, we have grown fresh vegetables, pulses and corn for our families, during Spring and Summer, courtesy of Doug Visser and Kelly Mills, who generously offered us plots of land on their vegetable farm at Lady Flower Gardens.
Lady Flower Gardens’ Land Use Agreement – Bridge Garden
‘The Bridge Garden’ will be made up of nine 30’ x 70’ plots arranged in a long line down the side of ‘The Community Development Garden’.
Each plot will be rented for a 5 month term (May 2nd - Oct 3rd 2015) to individuals, or groups, for 10 volunteer hours at Lady Flower Gardens. All produce grown in a ‘Bridge’ plot is the property of the individual (or group) that is renting that plot.
Guidelines for Participation:
(1) Abandonment or neglect of a plot will result in that plot being reassigned to another gardener.
(2) Gardeners will garden organically and in an environmentally sustainable way.
(3) Planting begins May 2th. A garden not planted by June 1st will be reassigned.
(4) Gardeners are responsible for supplying their own seed and planting their own plot.
(5) Plants with runners must stay contained to their own plot (eg. pumpkin, squash, untrained beans and cucumbers).
(6) Harvest should be complete and the garden plot left clean at the end of the gardening season by October 3rd. Gardeners should take home all stakes, tomato cages, fencing, etc.
(7) All gardeners will respect other gardeners, the equipment and the garden itself by keeping within their own plots, taking care and removing tools, practice water conservation and use on-site water sparingly, and being responsible for the behavior of guests, children and pets while they are on site.
(8) All gardeners will assist in promoting the security and safety of the LFG property and report any damage to Kelly Mills ([email protected] or text 780 686 330)
(9) ‘Bridgers’ are allowed on their gardening plots everyday of the week during daylight hours. On Wednesdays and Saturdays they are welcome to walk through the forest by The North Saskatchewan River.
(10) In order not to disrupt the commercial operation of Riverbend Gardens, do not trespass on their property. Also, respect the privacy of the other neighbours bordering Lady Flower Gardens and do not disturb them, nor trespass on their property
(11) Bridgers can participate in the guest harvest in The Community Development Garden on Wednesdays and Saturdays. They will need to fill out The LFG Community Development Agreement and prebook a harvest time – 24 hrs notice. (via e-mail or text).
I have read the above guidelines and agree with all of the expectations for my participation at ‘The Bridge Garden’.
I participate at Lady Flower Gardens entirely at my own risk. I understand that the Lady Flower Gardens, nor the owners of the land, are responsible for my actions. I therefore agree to hold harmless Lady Flower Gardens, and Riverbend Gardens, and owners of the land for any liability, damage, loss or claim that occurs in connection with the use of the garden by me or any of my guests.
